Description
Exzolt® is a highly effective treatment for poultry red mite and northern fowl mite in chickens. Unlike sprays and powders, it works systemically: mites are killed when they feed on treated birds, including those hiding in the coop.
Exzolt® is given via drinking water, making it easy to use for backyard chicken keepers. Treatment consists of two doses given 7 days apart to break the mite life cycle and reduce reinfestation.
Safe for laying hens with no egg withholding period, Exzolt® is ideal for small flocks dealing with stubborn or recurring mite problems. Best results are achieved alongside basic coop cleaning and good hygiene.
Dose: 0.05 mL per kg of bird bodyweight per treatment day, mixed into drinking water.
mL product per treatment day = total body weight of chickens to be treated in kg × 0.05 mL
How much Exzolt® do I need?
Each flock is treated twice, 7 days apart.
As a simple guide, an average backyard hen weighs around 2 kg. Larger breeds may weigh more, so always calculate the dose using the actual total body weight of your flock where possible.
- 10 mL bottle
Suitable for up to 50 average hens for the full 2-dose treatment. - 50 mL bottle
Suitable for up to 250 average hens for the full 2-dose treatment.
Example dose for 5 chickens
For example, if you have 5 average hens weighing 2 kg each:
Total flock weight = 5 × 2 kg = 10 kg
Exzolt® needed per treatment day = 10 kg × 0.05 mL = 0.5 mL
Because the flock is treated twice, 7 days apart, the total amount needed for the full treatment course is:
0.5 mL × 2 = 1 mL total
Using Exzolt® alongside other mite control products
Exzolt® targets mites on the birds themselves, while products such as diatomaceous earth and disinfectant/cleaning spray help reduce mites and hiding places in the coop environment. Using Exzolt® together with basic coop cleaning and environmental treatments can improve overall control and help reduce the chance of reinfestation, especially in established or hard-to-clear mite problems.
